Overview

Tsavo East National Park

Established in 1948, Tsavo East is one of Kenya’s oldest and largest national parks. It is known for its vast open plains, the famous “red elephants” dusted in volcanic soil, and the Yatta Plateau—the world’s longest lava flow. Historically, the area was part of ancient trade routes and is famed for the man-eating lions during the construction of the Kenya-Uganda Railway.

Tsavo West National Park

Also gazetted in 1948, Tsavo West offers dramatic scenery with volcanic hills, lava fields, and underground springs. During World War I, it was a key battleground between British and German colonial forces. Mzima Springs, which supplies fresh water to Mombasa, showcases unique geological and ecological history.

Amboseli National Park

Declared a national reserve in 1948 and later a national park in 1974, Amboseli is globally known as the “Land of Giants” for its large-tusked elephants and breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Historically, it is the homeland of the Maasai people and was once a hunters’ paradise before becoming a conservation area championed by renowned conservationist Cynthia Moss.
